The second week of our holiday we stayed in Mataró,
a small city 28km north of Barcelona. Our campsite ("Playasol") made a
very lousy first impression. It was next to a busy road and railway and
the beach that their website
promised was a lousy one squared meter of sand next to the railroad.
But there was a nice pool, a bar with billiard/pool tables and lots of
beer, so after all we enjoyed ourselfs there :)
We went to the beach in Mataró wich was only a 5 minute drive in our van. Nice huge beach that was not too busy. We also took the train to Barcelona (40 minutes to Plaça de Catalunya) wich had airconditioning and nice (classical) background music :)
Jules can't walk long distances so the first day me, Big Joost and Jules took the touristbus to visit the famous Sagrada Família, Parc Guëll and Camp Nou (the stadium of FC Barcelona). The Sagrada Família was impressive and beautiful, but they still have a lot of work to do untill it's finished :) I especially liked the coloured fruit-thingees on top of all the towers :) In Parc Guëll I enjoyed the large bench in the parc, and the view from over the city, wich was rather impressive!
I'm not really a soccerfan, but Jules and Joost had to go to the Barcelona Stadium and, I have to admit, even for a non-sport-person like me it was cool to take the tour in the stadium. We walked along the dressingrooms (where we jumped into the hot-tub :) through the catacombes of the stadium to the field. And this stadium is huge! I could only try to imagine how it must feel like when you walk up those stairs and there are 98.800 people shoutin' and cheerin'. Wow. We further could visit the press-seats, the press room and all kinds of other places where you're normally are not allowed to be :) Cool!
We visited Barcelona two more times. Visited Montjuïc, Palau Reial, Barri Gòtic, a Dalí exhibition and lots more! Barcelona is a really impressive city and being on a campsite next to the beach was also really nice!
More photos here, Jules is going to upload his photos tomorrow so stay tuned :)

So the first week of our holiday, Guido, Kajo, Joost, Big Joost, Jules, Vincent and me camped on campsite "Le Moulin"
in Saint Martin d'Ardèche. It was next to the Ardèche river and we had
a huge and shady place on the camping so that was nice. We hired
mountainbikes and came across some nice mountainbike paths in the area
around Saint Martin, we hired Canoes to canoe on the river (wich was
very busy with a lot of people that were also canoeing on the Ardèche
:) We crashed into a lot of other boats :)
And, we cycled up the Mt. Ventoux, one of the most difficult cols from the the Tour de France. We had to climb 1612 meters in a 21,5 km long cycling trip. And it was tough :( Vincent and Joost didn't even bother to try, so they were first at the top with our car. Big Joost turned around halfway and waited for us in Bédoin.. Jules arrived first at the top in 2h06, followed by Guido and Kajo in 2h23. And finaly I arrived at the top after 2h42.. It was really difficult to stay on your bike and cycle all the way, but when you arrive at the top, it's really cool that you've done it and made it all by yourself!
After we all arived at the top we had to descent back to Bédoin where we hired the bikes and Big Joost was still waiting for us, this took us only 30 minutes or so and was really cool to do :) I never thought I could ride bikes that fast :)
So this was a real active week in France. We moved to Mataro, 45km north of Barcelona to enjoy the city and the beach. I tell you all about that in a couple of days!
See the photos here!
